Book of Mark - The Tax Collector by Poporetto Book of Mark - The Tax Collector by Poporetto

He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.

(Mark 2: 13-14 ESV)

Not only that Jesus can forgive sins, in fact he’s calling sinner to be His disciple! Tax collector at that time is one of the worst profession according to the law teachers, they’re seen as traitors to the Jews as they collect money for Roman authority. But Jesus doesn’t see that, he calls people to repent and follow Him :)

Extra Trivia
I only knew this when I drew this comic, apparently Levi in the end is the one who writes the account of Jesus, the book of Matthew! D:

Love the Peanuts reference!

Also, yeah, there's the possibility that Levi wrote Matthew, though I don't think we don't know for sure. Certainly Matthew was written by one familiar with Jewish customs and history. I love how Mark (supposedly) describes himself when they arrested Jesus and he ran away stark naked. XD

ahahahha oh yeah Mark did that too XD XD

Sometimes I also think Jesus called those who he could use their talent. A tax collector had to know multiple languages, as well as how to deal with people patiently as no one wanted to pay tax of course. I also wonder if it's because as a tax collector, he remembered things better.

hahah indeed, yes and no though, some people are literally really common people, lots of them are fisherman, I'm pretty sure fishings skills dont contribute much to gospel writing :p

True but that's what made Paul very unique, he knew all about the 'law' only to be able to help Pharisees and Romans and Greeks and everyone understand Jesus better than the law.

Heh, heh... that was a great little moment... ;)

I really love how that was dramatised in the Miracle Maker, when Jesus was selecting his Twelve.
After picking a very surprised and doubting Thomas after the first ten, he went over to the tax collector's booth where Levi/Matthew was sat looking very unhappy about his job.
Simon, called Peter, told Jesus this was not a good place to find someone else, but Jesus called Matthew by name. At first the tax collector cringed, expecting more flak from a dissatisfied customer, but to the disbelief of the others Jesus called his name again and bade him to follow.
Matthew got up at once, dropping a handful of moneybags and carelessly sweeping them aside as he abandoned his booth.

Poporetto, please answer this honestly:
Everyone has a tainted heart and obviously no one is sinless, but is it wrong to kill an evil man? Is it right to sacrifice one to save the many?
Poporetto Featured By Owner Feb 22, 2017   Digital Artist
God says that vengeance is his, we have no right to kill any evil man :s

For your other question, may I ask whether you're talking in reference of Jesus Christ?

XC Jesus being sacrificed is really sad. D':

Though it was for the greater good, it still was sad.
